In June 2008, Google and Yahoo announced an agreement that would allow Yahoo to display Google paid advertising in their organic search results. The agreement had a tentative length of up to 10 years depending on Yahoo’s option to renew at two points.
The deal between Google and Yahoo was sent to the Department of Justice for review on grounds of Anittrust. If the Google and Yahoo deal were to be completed it would give Google access to an additional 22% of the paid search market on top of their already 70% dominent market share. These numbers would make it very difficult for another company (Microsoft) to gain ground in the paid search advertising market thus creating an anticompetitive market.
