Ocean waves off of the United States Outer Contintental Shelf (OCS) are a potential form of alternative energy. Ocean waves are a form of renewable energy that is fueled by both natural wind currents and incoming solar energy that is transferred to the water. Additionally, the waves off of the US OCS have the potential to generate 2,100 Terra-Watts of energy.

Ocean waves could provide a clean, renewable energy source that could provide a great amount of energy to the United States. Much of the technology needed to convert waves into energy is still in development but should be available soon commercially. The four technologies are:
